Kitten on the Keys

I was writing a new blog entry a bit ago but the whole thing was destroyed when I walked into my kitchen for a glass of water. While I was gone, my cat Tommy typed a little bit himself. The following is his blog entry in its entirety:

Guess he had to get it off his chest.

Anyway, I post this because it reminded me of this software, newly available: Pawsense. It's a program that can detect "cat like" typing and block its harmful effect on your computer, saving you lost files and damaged hardware. I had no idea that this was such a widespread problem, necessitating the development of special protective technology. As for me, using a notebook computer, I'll just be careful to close the book when I'm not using it. For some of you out there using desktop machines, thank God for Pawsense.

For Pete's Sake Be Careful Out There!

When you see them walking around town, they always look so lost.

Tonight I had the heart wrenching experience of hitting an animal with my car. I was on my way back from the Ballard Market (veggie dogs, peaches, bananas, a Formula 50) and I was driving North on 8th just past 65th when I saw the car ahead of me swerve sharply. A big raccoon just narrowly avoided death, running directly in front of them from right to left and easily clearing into the bushy median. I was already braking, since I didn't know what the driver in front of me had planned, but the raccoon jumped back out into the street and tried to run back to the right sidewalk again. I swerved but he kissed the bumper enough to spin my stomach. He ran out from under the front of my car and seemed to be intact as he trucked up the pavement away from me. A closer call than I'd like, thank you.

There are a lot of big, sad-eyed possums and raccoons in Seattle now; so many that they have become a major threat to the local house cats. Until this population boom stabilizes (and it will stabilize) be careful when you're out driving in the evening. The animals forage earlier in the day than they ever have before too, so keep your eyes peeled starting at about 7 O'clock.

I would have been really upset if I'd killed that little bum. When I hit him, without thinking about it, I called out "Buddy! NO!"

Afterwards, for some reason, I called him "Little Sauce". I have no idea why (shrugs).

Manga Yourself Up Some

A few people have asked me where I got that little cartoon of my face up in my profile to the right. Those little self portraits are everywhere now, replacing the Simpsonized self portraits of last year. If you want to take a shot at making one yourself, you'll find everything you need here.

Jim Woodring's LORBO is coming!

In a pose of both victory and surrender, he's coming! He's right behind you! You're left behind him! He's breathing your baby's air!! The phone calls are coming from inside your mind! AHHHHHHHHH!

Look! I even bought a timer for the timed exercises at my writing group meetings!
