Thanks to old time pal Kees Vander Putten for tipping me to this!

A Great Anti-Vista Ad from Apple

I'm rockin' Vista right now and I'm having no issue with it whatsoever, but many people really dislike it, some going as far as paying computer repair outfits to scrub Vista out and install Windows XP. Microsoft never gets it right out of the gate. No matter what you think of Vista or what you think of Macs, this ad is most amusing.

OH! Wait! I DID have an issue with Vista and I forgot all about it! I had a scanner- a perfectly good scanner- that I've had for nearly five years now. Since it's older, Epson won't create a Vista compatible driver for it and it's unusable now. Granted, it's five years old, but a few weeks ago it worked as well as it ever had. So, Vista cost me $150.00 for a new scanner. Vista issue #1.

"Calm Down Chief. He Can't Harm You No More."

I love this Denny's spot, featuring Tony Sirico as a Paulie Walnuts kind of a cop.

Tina Fey For Disneyland

You know those print ads where Disney and Annie Lebovitz get big name celebrities to dress like famous Disney characters for lushly produced photographs? Last go-round Scarlett Johansson stood in for Cinderella in the best of that series. This time, the best one is definitely Tina Fey as Tinkerbell, with Jessica Biel's Pocahontas a close runner up. Check them out:

UPDATE: It turns out that the Tina Fey shot is but a tiny detail in this larger image with Mikhail Baryshnikov and Giselle Bundchen. Even better!

I love that Tina Fey girl.

This link will take you to the lot of them, on the Disney site.

Fantasy Food vs Fast Food

This site features side by side comparisons of the "beauty shots" that fast food chains plaster all over their walls, windows, ads, websites and menus, and shots of the rather depressing real life items you get for your pennies. I can never look an Arby's Beef 'n' Cheddar in the eye again.

Dove: Onslaught Ad

This is sobering, and very well done. It's the latest in a series of brilliant Dove commercials centering around "real beauty" and not the media's warped version of what beauty means. I think about the effect this junk society has on girls every time I turn on the television.

Forever is Overrated - Fling Chocolate Ad

This ad owes as much to Wally Wood as it does Walt Disney. Look at the prince! Wood meets Milt Kahl!

New on Earth

...is this little elephant made by Jen Ralston. It's tiny, and the next one she sews will be larger, which makes this a one of a kind little guy.

Jen's Flickr page.

Look! I was originally looking for the Sour Bites candy wrapper of my youth (the Sour Bites Tiger is much loved within my head) and I ran across a Fruit Stripe Gum ad featuring Jen's little elephant's great grandpa. Behold!

I did find that little Tiger, by the by. Both are from Tick Tock Toys, a website that simply must be seen to be believed. Thousands of vintage packages, ads, premiums and standees- you will be amazed. Plan on losing all productivity for hours. It's that addictive.

I don't quite get this, but it's really well done.

Funny Ad For A Joke Beer.

Bullshit.

A GM Spot wherein an assembly line robot dreams he lost his job, became depressed and killed himself.

GM Motherfuckers have got a lot of goddamned nerve making a commercial that pokes fun at assembly line workers despondent over being laid off- the assembly line worker here basically being played by a robot. Years ago GM decided robots were a better, cheaper alternative to human beings and began a system of layoffs that have cost tens of thousands of people their livelihoods in the US and Canada alone. In 2005 they made the decision to dump more than 30,000 employees to save billions of dollars. This year, they foresee more layoffs; and this is from a company that supports billionaires at the top of their corporate structure. I can't tell you how much something like this pisses me off.

Fuck GM. If you work for GM, start looking for another job now, because you obviously are just a punchline to your corporate overlords.

You Don't Always Die From Tobacco.

There have been a lot of great people who might be here today if they hadn't smoked tobacco. Here's one of the best anti smoking ads I've ever seen. If you smoke cigarettes, knock it off! You look much cooler without them, trust me.
